MozTour@Leyte Day02 - 03 AUG 2012

Day 02 – 03 AUG 2012: MozTour@SLSU

The day started with a breakfast at the Palermo Hotel, after a couple of minutes we ride Potpot (Bicycle with sidecar) going to Van Terminal at Baybay,Leyte. After an hour, we arrived at Bato, Leyte and transfer to a public utility bus that will bring us to Sogod,Southern, Leyte. We take a lunch at Mang Inasal at Gaisano Mall at Sogod Southern, Leyte, after the lunch, we ride a tricycle going Southern Leyte StateUniversity (SLSU). I just surprised when we asked the guard that we’re looking for Mr. Alex Bacalla at IT Bldg, the guard instantly know that we’re from Mozilla.

We have almost two hundred attendees including the faculty and staff.
I don’t expect to have that much attendee, as I only had few sign up from Eventbrite and almost a hundred in Facebook event page.

The program is started with a prayer and followed by our national anthem.

Then it’s my turn to introduce our Team, Lead-Localization Robert “Bob” Reyes, Lead-Student Reps Kemuel Joseph Domanog, his sister JoyceDomanog Mozilla Phl Volunteer and yours truly Melchor “Chor” Compendio ReMo. Unfortunately our Community Manager Eusebio “Jun” Barrun, Jr. had to take his flight back to Manila that’s why his not with us.

Our first speaker is Bob Reyes for the keynote followed by the introduction of localization, HTML5 Cross Platform Mobile Development and of course, the Firefox OS (B2G).

The next speaker is Kemuel for the ReMo and the Student Reps campaign,

Ms Joyce also gave her short talk on why she is joining the ReMo program.
One of the questions they ask to us is how they can participate/contribute the program as their location is geographically far from Manila. (something like that). This question I think makes all of us (ReMo) shares some answers and ideas. Basically we’ve explain that it’s not how far is your place is, as long as you have the net connection and a heart to shares and evangelized the Mozilla’ mission.
The faculty and student from SLSU are thankful that we select them to visit; despite of how far we’ve travel. The program is ended with goup picture taking.

We also had a chance to talk to the SLSU President Gloria Markines Reyes, Ph.D.

By the way, the swags are cool, they love to have the Lanyard, stickers and the pins, and of course the T-shirts.
